Hello readers! In this first post, we will tell you about our plans in Summit Park and partnering with OACAC.
First, a little bit about our community partner: OACAC. OACAC stands for Ozark Area Community Action Corp. Their main goal is to alleviate poverty in the Ozark area through poverty simulations, fundraisers, and community involvement.
We will be working with OACAC to bring awareness of Springfield’s poverty situation to the Drury campus, our college. We will do this by hosting a poverty simulation this semester. We’ve held multiple meetings with with our OACAC correspondence to discuss how we will do this. We plan to do the simulation in November, and have been working on setting a date.
One difficulty that has come up has been deciding what time of the school day we would schedule the simulation that would be most beneficial to the participants.
We are very excited about our upcoming project, and we know our partners are grateful for our determination!
